There have always been controversial issues in society (and different things are controversial in different societies and time periods). The list above contains but a few controversial issues.
In this prompt, you are to write a story that deals with a controversial social issue. The catch is that it has to be written without the author forcing a side on to the readers (or even taking a side) and without a clear resolution to that issue taking place in the story.
This can help you not only to create socially engaging material but avoid preachiness. And it can teach you to look at the ambiguities inherent in any situation.
