How do we separate the "mature" comics like Vertigo from the "porn" comics?
Is there even a place for porn comics in the currnet market?

Sure there is. Everybody's got a fetish.
Porn comics are best left to the direct market instead of on the shelves, though.

The porn needs to go.
If we want to convince people that we have a serious medium for literature and art, the last thing we need are poorly made books filled with naked women being penetrated by god knows what.
Keep that shit for the internet.

There's porn in EVERY medium.
TV (HBO specials anyone?), Movies, Literature, Art, Photography... All serious and all including porn.
I've even seen somebody make boobs on a Lite Brite.
But, eh, what I'm saying is, there's a market for everything out there and just because there are adult comics does not mean suddenly the rest of the industry is discredited. As comics are shifting from kid stuff to complex psychology, we've seen a massive surge in how the public views the medium. The big reveal from CIVIL WAR #2 was covered in TIMES, an accomplishment that would've never even cracked the paper if it wasn't a serious medium.
I don't see that misconception anymore, that comics are for kids OR losers.
Also, there's gonna be crappy comics with or without porn.
