Hi, I'm hgpc from the Newsarama boards. Nolan prompted me here (thanks!). I'd like to present you Flax Comics... Flax Comics is a fresh initiative to create original and self-contained comic books. As no flax fiber is alike, each Flax story attempts to challenge its readers with different themes and genres, ranging from sci-fi, horror and war to mystery, action and romance, albeit a little twisted. Flax Comics is looking for pencillers, inkers, colorists, letterers and cover artists who are willing to work for a percentage of profits. We are looking for fresh talent who is willing to invest in our projects, gaining exposure and experience through the process. To submit to Flax Comics, please familiarize yourself with our projects through our new beta site flaxcomics.brinkster.net/ and send us samples of your work to flaxcomics@yahoo.com, stating in which project you would like to work. Thank you, Hermés Piqué Flax Comics flaxcomics.brinkster.net/

Hermes,
Did you do that website yourself?
That's very nice. Great way to advertise your publishing venture. Clean, well-designed, and I like the covers as well. The only thing i'm not crazy about is the vertical lettering of "flax comics."
Are you planning to use a print-on-demand system, or are you trying for a more traditional Diamond approach?
Dave

The projects sound impressive, have you thought about PT as a market?

Dave Thank you, Dave. I love saying that, I sound like HAL. Yes, I did that website myself. I'm not happy with the temp covers , but this whole endeavor has been a whirlwind (today I spent 8 hours answering mail and pimping the site), and I just wanted to have some pictures as soon as possible to give something else than the scripts. I will replace the covers as soon as I have art from the pencillers. Response has been great (REALLY great), so I hope that's soon. As the site kind of explains, the goal it to submit the stories to independent publishers. Besides the obvious advantages, it saves a lot of time and let's me concentrate on creating, not publishing and promoting. However, if I'm confident enough on the products and my availability, I might try the self-publishing route for some projects. It that happens, I'll invest some money and go for the Diamond approach probably. And now really off to bed.

The projects sound impressive, have you thought about PT as a market? Thanks Nolan (I hope you meant "impressive" in a good way). Yes, I did. I have printed the submission release and I will examine it carefully. However, I don't own the art and there may be around five creators (penciller, inker, colorist, letterer, cover artist and me) involved per project, so I don't even know how to begin handling that. Established publishers deal with this situation frequently, so I can give more security to the artists, but in PT's case, I have to handle the matter very carefully. If I were the sole creator, I wouldn't even worry. Legal stuff aside, I think Empathy could work in the context of PT.

I guess I posted my request for an artist in the wrong forum, because there's a million replies to this and none to mine!
Or... Maybe I suck.
