I said this on Talk@ and the next two posts told me to shut up.
I figure some people here might think it's funny.
Truth, justice and towing the party line.
It's Republican Superman.
Watch as he dismantles Brainiac's well thought out and well-backed up arguments with pandering to the basest virtues of white trash.
Watch as he gives Lex Luthor billions in corporate welfare to repress the people of Metropolis.
Watch as he deports Silver Banshee and then lets her back in the country under conditions that resemble involuntary servitude and then gives her a list of registered Democrats in areas where the midterm election is going to be close. __________________

Dude, don't even get me started on that.
Actually, I'll post my main points. If you want to see the full version then search at Talk@Newsarama.
- The Superman as Jesus thing came about because there had to be a reason to eviscerate the politics from the character. - Superman's politics are a direct result of New Deal Socialism. And his politics now have shifted to the centre-left Scandanavian variety of Socialism. - And if his politics were anything else, you'd basically end up with a supervillian.

Superman is a tool isn't he? If he stands for Truth, Justice and the American way then doesn't he pretty much have to support the ideals and opinions of whatever party is running the White House/Senate/H of Reps?

By that logic, he would have been stopping Civil Rights marches and keeping segregation around.

Sounds like a Hell of an Elseworlds story you got there...
Or perhaps a separate series for Tide about a Superman rip-off character... You know, deconstruction AND alternate history...

those topics may have been too edgy for Shuster to tackle when he created Supes. He may have been afraid of scaring people away from the book. Even still, civil rights marches are perfectly legal based on freedom of speech and expression so Superman wouldn't have tried to stop that if he read the constitution.

jayvee--the last thing I need is to piss off more conservatives. ONce they get some lone wolf to murder rid of Ward Churchill and SBC, I'm in the crosshairs.
So what the hell, I'll do it.
dragonaces,
The Superman then was a hell of a lot more political then he is now. He took on corrupt factory owners and stuff.
Segregation was the law of the land, like it or not. Even the people who were against slavery weren't really for racial equality.

Well, the "American Way" bit was just tacked on during the Cold War, when the public was big on that sort of thing...
